Meditation, an ancient practice that has withstood the test of time, offers a pathway to delve into the depths of our own consciousness and connect with the present moment. While meditation might seem mysterious or daunting to beginners, it is a journey well worth embarking upon. This article aims to guide beginners through the realm of meditation techniques, helping them discover the transformative power of looking inward.
To all the beginners out there - I kindly request you to give it a try and let the results speak for itself.
The Essence of Meditation At its core, meditation is a practice of cultivating mindfulness, awareness, and a sense of inner peace. It's about learning to be present in the moment without judgment or distraction. While it has deep roots in spiritual and religious traditions, meditation has evolved into a secular practice with proven benefits for mental, emotional, and even physical well-being.
Getting Started
1. Choose a Comfortable Space: Find a quiet and comfortable space where you won't be disturbed. It could be a corner of your room, a peaceful spot in nature, or even a dedicated meditation space (This works best! While you dedicate and set a spot for meditation, the energy around the space builds up as you meditate and creates a zone where you can actually feel abundance, peace and prosperity)
2. Set a Time: Start with a short duration, perhaps 5-10 minutes, and gradually increase the time as you become more comfortable with the practice. I know this is easier said than done and how difficult it can really be. I have been there and its really frustrating, this is the point where most people try and give up. The Tsunami of thoughts that strike our brains! Well, I assure you its for the good. Do not block your thoughts, let them flow, it is your mind clearing all your thoughts by opening the flood gates. After 2-3 days or a week in some cases - you will experience something profound, your thoughts will have reduced big time! you will feel immense peace and calm, slowly, but surely you will observe small changes in your response to external world which will eventually build up to a massive shift in your character!
Sometimes we do get restless right? the simple trick is to set an alarm for 5 mins from your start time. This way you know that your alarm will ring in 5 mins and you don't have to be anxious if you meditated for 5 mins or not. Once you are comfortable with 5 mins, set the alarm for 10, 15 and so on.... Once you cross 20 please don't use the alarm trick. Remember this is just for beginners. Once you cross 20 mins consistently you need to let it flow, you need to let yourself enjoy the process of meditation rather than forcefully continuing
3. Comfortable Posture: You don't need to sit in a cross-legged position like in the movies. Sit or lie down in a way that's comfortable for you, with your back straight to maintain alertness. Having your back straight is the key and is a crucial requirement for meditation.
4. Focus on Breath Awareness: Close your eyes and bring your attention to your breath. Observe the sensation of each inhale and exhale. When your mind starts to wander, gently guide it back to your breath. Focus on the space between your eyebrows
Simple Tips to get started
Don't be disheartened if your mind wanders or you find it hard to sit still at the beginning. Meditation is a skill that requires practice. Here are a few tips to help you stay on track:
Consistency: Like any skill, regular practice is key. Try to meditate at the same time each day to establish a routine.
Gentleness: Be patient and kind to yourself. It's normal for thoughts to arise; the goal is not to eliminate them but to observe them without attachment.
Start Small: Begin with short sessions and gradually increase the duration as your focus and comfort improve.
Guided Sessions: Utilize guided meditation sessions, apps, or online resources to receive guidance and structure.
